With the big race day approaching fast, RAFT will, over the coming weeks be highlighting the various reasons why our 2010 runners have chosen to raise funds for our research and take part in this years Virgin London Marathon.
Today, Laura Barnes explains why she decided on RAFT as her chosen charity, and how she is progressing with her training and fundraising.
What motivated you to 'run for RAFT'?
I was motivated to run for RAFT following an introduction from a colleague. She was full of praise for the work done by the charity, and what had been achieved with somewhat limited funding. I knew I would find it really rewarding to run for a small charity where I felt I could make a real impact.
How is your training progressing?
The training is going surprisingly well and so far, I am injury free! I started the training schedule after Christmas when London was covered in snow - despite the freezing temperatures I think the adverse weather conditions served me well because it forced me to run slow.
How do you plan to raise your target amount?
I am very lucky to have a large and incredibly supportive family who are contributing financially to my marathon challenge. My work colleagues have also been fantastic and I've received lots of donations from my team - they've also been a source of encouragement every time I head out for a run around Regent's Park!
